Haunted by memories of his tumultuous love life, a Writer checks into New York’s infamous Chelsea Hotel desperate to find the words and inspiration for his next song. Wading through past relationships, he reluctantly comes face to face with the love of the present, a love he wishes he could not just forget, but erase from existence. Chelsea Hotel is a riveting fusion of music, dance and theatre that takes its audience on an illusionary journey into the hotel room and creative mind of a Writer in search of the right words to cure love’s pain. The play stars Rachel Aberle, Lauren Bowler, Steve Charles, Benjamin Elliott, Marlene Ginader and Adrian Glynn McMorran as The Writer. Chelsea Hotel is conceived, directed and choreographed by Tracey Power, with musical direction and arrangement by Steve Charles, costume design by Barbara Clayden, set design by Marshall McMahen, lighting design by Ted Roberts, dramaturgy by James MacDonald, artistic direction by Donna Spencer and stage managed by Kelly Barker. Tracey Power has been involved as an actor and writer for The Firehall for many years, playing the Jessie Award-nominated role of “Little Sally” in Urinetown, The Musical and “The Folksinger” in The Ecstasy of Rita Joe. She also performed her Sterling Award winning self-penned, one woman show, Living Shadows in the 2007 season and wrote the book for the musical Back To You, The Life and Music of Lucille Starr, which received its world premiere with the Firehall in 2009. Leonard Cohen is one of the most important and influential songwriters of our time; a figure whose body of work achieves greater depths of mystery and meaning as time goes on. His songs have set a virtually unmatched standard in their seriousness and range -sex, spirituality, religion, power – he has relentlessly examined the largest issues in life, always with a full appreciation of how elusive answers can be to the vexing questions he raises. Check in to the Firehall Arts Centre Production of Chelsea Hotel. Room available February 8 through March 3, 2012, with previews February 3-5 and 7 at the Firehall Arts Centre. Tickets are $12-$30 and are available through the Firehall Box Office by phone at 604.689.0926 or online at www.firehallartscentre.ca . -30-

Hurrah for Acting! If you like acting and blood and empowered men and empowered women and sweet cars and random cat shots (can you spot it?) then you’ll probably also like my brand new music video! It’s for the song 7 or 8 Days and you can watch it HERE . This video was a labour of lust and could not have been made without many talented friends who donated their talents and skills (I shall put their names below). It’s been a mobile Fall for me- touring the new record all over Canada has been enchanting and never dull. Thank you to all of you who came to see a show or purchased a record. And there are still 2 more shows before Christmas to speak of; one in Vancouver and one in Squamish (details below). Then I’ll be retreating onto a different kind of stage—an Acting stage! Yes, I will be performing in my first play in aeons. It is a new work based on the songs and poems of one Leonard Cohen entitled Chelsea Hotel and it will have its premiere at the Firehall Arts Centre in downtown Vancouver for the month of February. And that’s me. I’m recovering from tour and learning how to write songs again. I’m reading the Death of the Liberal Class by Chris Hedges (who’s always such fun) and listening to lots of L. Cohen and also the Cure (specifically, Disintegration). At night I walk an imaginary dog named Conscience and lose him, inevitably, in the trees. When will I learn? Have a wonderful jingly season, my friends. See you all some time in the New Year. ~ Glynn

For Immediate Release Tuesday, August 30th, 2011.

Multi-talented Adrian Glynn set to tour western Canada in support of his brilliant debut album Bruise. Download an MP3 of 'Blue Belle Lament' below. Vancouver -- Adrian Glynn is set to release his debut album Bruise next week (September 6th) on Light Organ Records. Shortly after the album's release, Glynn will hit the road for a tour of western Canada (full list of dates below).  Eastern Canada dates will be announced soon.  In the meantime, download an MP3 of the album's 'Blue Belle Lament' here and watch a video about the making of Bruise below. Adrian Glynn composes on acoustic and lap-slide guitars, as well as a balalaika, a Ukrainian folk instrument passed down through a century of his ancestry. A storyteller in his own right, Glynn has the ability to hypnotize listeners with tales of sinners, lovers, and redemption-seekers. In concert, he is a captivating and passionate performer, often using only his voice to carry the weight of his words. Adrian Glynn left behind a budding career as a character actor embodying pimps and junkies to emerge as a gifted singer-songwriter. In 2008, he spent nearly a year living in India, where his music received national radioplay and TV exposure. While there, he was also given the opportunity to teach guitar to disadvantaged Bombay youth. The trip inspired many stories, some of which were released in the form of a travel memoir entitled Fish Skin Memories: Impressions of India and the Middle East. For the last two years, Glynn has been a member of celebrated roots/spoken word ensemble, The Fugitives, and appears on their critically acclaimed records Find Me and Eccentrically We Love, released in 2010 through Light Organ Records. Winnipeg’s Uptown Magazine described the group’s sound as “capable of achieving dizzying, Arcade Fire-ish crescendos, replete with parallel melodies, complex harmonies and brimming torrents of emotion.” In 2010, Glynn was selected as one of BC’s top 20 artists to participate in The Peak Performance Project, a five million dollar initiative sponsored by Vancouver’s newest AAA station, 100.5 The Peak FM.
