While some are still celebrating Valentine’s Day and the joys of being close to someone, others are out there trying to overcome the setbacks of being too close. We heard a snippet of this a few months ago from Fake Shark with their single “Paranoid,” which touched on the notion of being picked apart by someone you thought you could trust. When it happens so frequently, paranoia may begin to set in, as every move or every word could be interpreted as a threat. It can hurt to have one person turn against you, but when this person becomes a true enemy, the results can be devastating.

On their new single “Save Me,” Fake Shark prepare to lose the fight. With catchy hooks, cathartic lyrics, and buoyant melodies, they channel the hopelessness that comes when trying to break away from someone who is nothing but toxic. We hear lines like “Well, you think I’m really great, but I just can’t relate to that / I told you I’m afraid, and that’s my first mistake, in fact” and “Well, you say I’m pretty nice, but I don’t even like to talk to you / I told you I’m insane ‘cause I hoped you’d walk away,” showing the tension of the relationship. “‘Save Me’ is a song about realizing you’ve been attracting awful people into your life and how hopeless it can feel when a person realizes how toxic their ‘friends’ group is.
