Bodywash
Bodywash was formed in 2014 as a vehicle for the sonic bond between Chris Steward and Rosie Long Decter. The Montreal duo conjure a dreamscape with airy vocals, wet guitar textures and pulsating synths over a heavy rhythmic foundation.
Bodywash’s debut 2016 self-titled EP was met with immediate spotlight in the local Montreal scene. For their first LP, 2019’s Comforter, the band zeroed in on a confident marriage of 90s shoe-gaze & trip-hop, ethereal 80s pop, and contemporary left-field electronic music. The album was recorded with Nigel Ward [Seoul] and mixed by Taylor Smith & Austin Tufts [Braids]. Working with Luminelle Recordings for the release and Domino for publishing, the band had a successful album campaign, reaching new fans and charting on North American college radio. Comforter showcased Bodywash in bloom. I Held the Shape While I Could is Bodywash’s second full length album. The album was recorded over the pandemic with Jace Lasek [The Besnard Lakes] at storied Breakglass Studio and deals with experiences of dislocation. “It’s about losing your sense of the future and understanding of home” – Long Decter. This time out, the band gets more adventurous, bridging the space between dream pop and experimental music.
